Many people thought that WFH was a pipe dream. A simple three-second trip from your bed to the kitchen, office, or wherever you set up shop eliminates the need for makeup or shaving. WFH does, however, provide certain challenges, particularly given how fast firms had to adapt to it in a moment of stress and ambiguity. Productivity levels can only improve when there is a clear division between work and family life.
Here are five suggestions to help you be productive when working from home, and keep it up.
1. Maintain your routine
You could be tempted to remain in bed as long as possible if you don’t have to get dressed and commute. However, doing so could make you feel more exhausted and lethargic all day. Instead, try to get up at the same time every day. Take advantage of the extra time to awaken your body and mind and prepare for the day ahead. Maintain your regular bedtime regimen, too.
2. Select the appropriate environment
Your surroundings greatly influence your productivity. Avoid sitting in bed or in front of the TV, and try to keep distractions to a minimum. If you are at home alone, the kitchen table might be a good place to work, but it won’t be easy to concentrate if you are around family.
3. Retain a to-do list.
Making a list will aid in keeping you organized and on schedule. Every person at Market Mentors aims to maintain both a weekly and daily list. This helps us prioritize and direct our daily work to get the most out of each day. It also offers us a broad view of what we need to do during the coming week.
4. Make the most of technology.
The abundance of currently available resources is one of the best things about technology & WFH. Schedule meetings on your calendar, send yourself reminders, & block off time to work on projects. When you are unavailable, let your coworkers know so that you can finish projects without interruptions.
Misunderstandings can arise if you can’t get up & talk to someone right away. You can save time by calling, writing an email, or sending an SMS to ask for clarification. Don’t hesitate to ask more questions to gather all the knowledge and specifics you require to complete the task correctly. Teams may experience a disconnect due to a lack of in-person meetings. Consider using tools like Microsoft Teams or Zoom to plan virtual meetings for your team or clients.
5. Keep a positive attitude
Your physical & mental health might be negatively impacted by a difficult period like this. Your productivity will probably decline if you experience a slump. Try to see the bright side and refocus on what you could do now that you previously found it difficult to fit into your schedule. Every 90 minutes, take a quick break to clear your thoughts by cuddling your pet, calling family, or going for a stroll in the fresh air. Give yourself enough time for a lunch break, eat healthily, and drink plenty of water.
